  • “The Troubles” in Northern Ireland claimed its 1,000th victim today in 1974, it was James Murphy, a petrol station owner in County Fermanagh
  • A Soviet jet fighter shot at a Korean Airlines aircraft today in 1978, it had veered off course over the Arctic Ocean and entered Soviet airspace, the aircraft made a crash landing and 2 of the 109 passengers and crew died
  • The Columbine High School massacre occurred today in 1999 in Colorado in the United States, the students Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, murdered 12 students and one teacher and then committed suicide

  • The American singer-songwriter and actress Madonna, known as the “Queen of Pop”, signed a 60 million US Dollar deal with Time Warner today in 1992
  • The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert for AIDS Awareness was held today in 1992 at Wembley Stadium in London, it was attended by more than 70,000 fans
